Transphobic U.S. Congressman edits Wikipedia to include hate speech for Laverne Cox       →

animedavidbowie:

wdya:

Someone with an IP address sourcing to the House of Representatives just edited the Orange Is the New Black Wikipedia page with the telling summary of “not a woman.”

That’s right, this Congressman edited out a sentence hailing the show for including “the first ever women-in-prison narrative to be played by a real transgender woman.”  What did he replace it with?  Hate speech.

The Congressman called Cox a “man pretending to be a woman,” and linked to an offensive article by National Review Online aptly titled “Laverne Cox Is Not a Woman.”

The change has since been reversed and the IP address has been banned from editing Wikipedia for a month, but you can see the original edit he made in the link above.

The change was spotted by a Twitter bot which tweets out links any time a Congressional IP address edits Wikipedia.

Spread this like wildfire.

Nathan Fillion’s panel Q&A at Phoenix Comic Con | June 7, 2014 (x)

Q: If Firefly had gone on longer, what is something you would’ve hoped to have gotten to do with either just Mal or the story in general?

And they’re all beagles, right?

It’s like Marvel is really trying to piss people off, lol.

calling it, whoever the new iron man is they won’t be straight. marvel’s tryna go for the trifecta.

Nothing makes me more pleased than Marvel making Marvel fanboys angry about genuinely good and interesting comic choices.

But is it good choices, or is it tokenism? Time will tell.

A minority character being the PROTAGONIST and title character of a work is, by definition, not tokenism.

So this guy found a link that said Thor is gonna be a woman and he posted this huge status to Facebook and the best part is that the status went from “While I’m all for equality and equal representation…” to “But Thor is the SON of Odin and the GOD of Thunder. Women need to get their own superheroes. Not change the gender of the males!!” in one paragraph. So of course I commented on it and now I’m mentally poised to battle this out. Women DON’T have any representation. Almost every female superhero is basically the genderbent version of the males anyways. Batgirl? Batman. Spiderwoman? Spider-Man. Miss Martian? Martian Manhunter. Supergirl? Superman. All of it begins with the men. So no. We can’t really just make our own superhero. Because all the storylines and the powers already belong to male characters and you’re all gonna claim they copy your little boy’s powers anyways.
My second argument is there is an infinite number of universes, canon universes, in the comic world. So why is the possibility of a genderbent Thor universe pissing you off so much? Because heaven forbid they show something other than a white male battling evil. You were pissed about Johnny Storm because the actor isn’t white and now because Thor doesn’t have a dick.
My last thing is, if you’re such a fucking stickler for canon in the new marvel movies, why the fuck didn’t you complain when they erased Rogue and diminished Kitty Pryde almost completely so Wolverine could have yet ANOTHER movie in the latest X-Men?
Oh. That’s right. Because you’re not for equality and equal representation. You’re just happy as long as white males are represented. And the moment another gender or minority gets the spotlight you throw a fucking fit and hollar that it’s destroying canon.

Just shut the fuck up.
